What Are Spot Sizes With The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus Laser?

Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus Laser has spot sizes ranging from 1.5mm up to a larger and new 26mm spot size which means fewer laser pulses – translating to increased treatment speed with our short 2ms pulses and superior client comfort. The 1.5mm spot sizes are ideal for treating the upper lip, brow and chin areas whereas the 26mm is super quick at treating a full leg, full arm or full back.

As a guideline treating a Males full back could take up to 29 minutes with an 18mm spot size whereas using the 26mm spot size will now take only 19 minutes meaning a much quicker and effective treatment. You could now get your Laser Hair Removal done on your lunch break.

Why Is The Alexandrite 755nm Laser Safer For Lighter Skin Types?

The Alexandrite laser has a specific wavelength of light that is non-ablative so will destroy hair at the root but leave the surface of the skin untouched. The Alexandrite 755nm is best suited to treat Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to III so those with dark hair and lighter skin types will see fantastic results.

The wavelength of high energy light emitted by the Alexandrite laser is converted to heat energy and this damages the specific target area. Thus alexandrite lasers work by a process of photo thermolysis, this means using light (photo) to heat (thermo) a selected area for destruction (lysis).

Why Is The Nd:YAG 1064Nnm Laser Safer For Darker Skin Types?

The Nd:YAG laser (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) is a crystal that is used as a laser medium for solid-state lasers that emits high-energy light flashes with extremely short pulses and a specific wavelength. The abbreviation "YAG" stands for yttrium-aluminium-garnet-crystal. When light falls on the crystal, the neodymium atoms are activated and flashes of light are released.

The Nd:YAG laser has a particularly long wavelength, which causes it to bypass the pigmentation and the top layer of skin and head straight for underlying tissues by precisely targeting only the melanin in the root hair, it does so by heating up its blood supply and destroying it.

With the Nd:YAG laser, it can be treated very specifically, as the set wavelength acts selectively on colours and structures. This can also prevent damage to the surrounding tissue and blood vessels.

The Nd:YAG laser is ideal for people with darker skin as the hair is usually thicker, curlier and stronger and the hair roots sit particularly deep under the skin surface, which is why the Nd:YAG laser is well suited.

Can I Get Laser Hair Removal If I Have A Darker Skin Type?

Laser Hair Removal works by targeting the melanin which is the colour in the hair follicle with a direct beam of laser light, this energy then damages and goes on to destroy the hair follicle, thus stopping the follicle from producing further hairs.

Darker skin and hair types need to be treated slightly differently from lighter skin types due to the high melanin content found in the skin.

This laser penetrates deeper into the skin picking up only on the hair and not the pigment in the skin, this is vital for darker skin as it allows you to miss the melanin in the skin and only target the hair follicle.
